Columbus Police Detective Art Hughes and Officer Norm BaldwinOfficer of the Week for June 11, 2007Columbus Police Detective Art Hughes and Officer Norm Baldwin COLUMBUS POLICE DETECTIVE ART HUGHES AND OFFICER NORM BALDWIN On April 24, 2007 there was an armed robbery on Columbus' south side. Detective Art Hughes and Officer Norm Baldwin responded to the scene. Officers located an open door in the rear of a residence, and Detective Hughes located the victim's cell phone on the back porch. Witnesses knew the suspect, and through prior experience Detective Hughes knew him by sight. The suspect was identified in a second story window, and Detective Hughes negotiated with him. The suspect surrendered peacefully and was subsequently charged with Aggravated Robbery. The quick action and extensive knowledge of the officers led to the arrest of a dangerous robbery suspect.
