Columbus Police Officer Chris BaileyOfficer of the Week for June 24, 2007Columbus Police Officer Chris Bailey On June 7th late in the evening Officer Chris Bailey was enjoying his night off from his second shift downtown patrol assignment kayaking the Scioto River in the downtown area. He quickly noticed the CPD helicopter hovering over by the west side of the riverbank. He also noticed several uniformed officers on foot along the riverbank. He headed in the direction of the helicopter's spotlight. The uniformed officers passed on information that a robbery suspect had just jumped in the river after fleeing a witness. He immediately started scanning the area and located the suspect hiding near some large rocks. He identified himself as a police officer and ordered the suspect he was under arrest and to swim to shore. The suspect was taken into custody by other officers. Due to his vigilance and quick actions while off-duty, a robbery suspect was taken "out of the water" and off the streets. We are proud to make Officer Chris Bailey of the Columbus Division of Police our "Officer of the Week" Officer of the Week Archive | |||||||
