Columbus Police Officers Barry O'Dell and Tim Dennis

Officer of the Week for August 19, 2007

Columbus Police Officers Barry O'Dell and
Tim Dennis

Officers
Barry O'Dell and Tim Dennis of the Columbus Police Department were on
patrol on W. Broad St. in the area of the Scioto River when they were
notified of a man on the bridge over the railing threatening to commit
suicide.  Officers approached the distraught and suicidal man.
Officer Dennis, a recent academy graduate made contact with the male and
began talking to him.  Officer O'Dell coordinated other responding
units and assisted Officer Dennis, who continued to calmly talk to the
male.  After approximately 30 minutes of excellent, calming dialogue,
the officers were able to talk the man down from the railing and out of
harm's way.  We are proud to name Columbus Police Officers Barry
O'Dell and Tim Dennis our "Officers of
the Week."
