Gahanna Police Sergeant Monty McCormick

Officer of the Week for September 16, 2007

Gahanna Police Sergeant Monty McCormick

On August 22, 2007 Columbus
police officers attempted to stop a male suspect fleeing the area of an
Aggravated Robbery on the city's northeast side. The male suspect fled
from officers at a high rate speed. The dangerous pursuit entered the city
of Gahanna, and Gahanna Police Sergeant Monty McCormick was able to safely position his cruiser
to perform a specialized tactic for ending chases called "Precision Immobilization Technique
(PIT)". This was the first time Sgt. McCormick had ended a dangerous pursuit in
this manner (the agency recently trained their officers) Due to Sgt. McCormick's quick
actions, in concert with excellent inter-agency cooperation, this Robbery suspect was
taken into custody without injury to any citizens. We are proud to name Sgt. Monty
McCormick of the Gahanna Division of Police our "Officer of the
Week"
