On December 2, 2007 at approximately
11:17pm, Columbus Police Officer William Kaufmann was working a Special
Duty assignment, when he heard a robbery call go out over his radio, very
few details were given. Officer Kaufmann, who was working nearby the
robbery location immediately began to attept to locate the suspect. 
Officer Kaufmann observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner with it's
headlights off. Officer Kaufmann suspected this may be the armed
robber.  He followed the vehicle, airing his location as on duty
officers in marked units responded to the area.  Upon their arrival,
a pursuit ensued.  The suspect tossed a gun and a mask from the
robbery out the window of the vehicle.  He subsequently crashed the
vehicle and was apprehended by patrol officers.  The suspect was
positively identified and faces charges that could net him more than 100
years inprison.  The outstanding initiative and keen observation of
Officer William Kaufmann led to this violent armed robbery suspect being
taken off the streets.  We are proud to name him our "Officer of the
Week."
