There are 61 employees within the Airport Authority’s Police Section, which is the police department that has jurisdiction over all Airport Authority property and roadways totaling 7500 acres. The Police Section handles all the responsibilities of a normal municipal police department such as patrolling the property and roadways as well as conducting criminal investigations including drug-related crimes. They also enforce the provisions of Federal Directives, the Ohio Revised Code, the Columbus City Code and the Rules and Regulations of the Airport Authority. The Police Section is a part of the Authority’s Public Safety Division, which includes Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, who provide fire protection and emergency medical services.

The City of Bexley was formed as a village in 1908. Bexley officially became a city in 1931 and at that time had six officers. Today, the department has 28 sworn officers consisting of one chief, one captain, one detective sergeant, four patrol sergeants, 18 patrol officers, two detectives, one animal control officer, one parking control officer, one administrative assistant, one clerk of courts and one fire inspector. In the earlier days, police officers patrolled Bexley on horseback, by bicycle, motorcycle and eventually automobile.

In 1957, the village, at a population of about 350 residents, hired a full-time police officer to handle law enforcement duties. The officer, "Rosie" Rose, also handled a number of other duties including city maintenance. By 1974, the village had increased in population and the police force was rapidly growing. The development of Muirfield by Jack Nicklaus was underway and the town expanded even more with Wendy’s International and Ashland Chemical’s corporate headquarters moving to Dublin. At present, the Dublin Division of Police has grown to more than fifty police officers, 10 communications personnel and five clerical positions.

The Gahanna Division of Police is comprised of 79 members (58 sworn staff) serving a suburban community in Central Ohio with a population of 33,984. The City of Gahanna encompasses 12.43 square miles of land with approximately 325 lane miles of roadway within its borders.  Gahanna is strategically positioned immediately adjacent to John Glenn Columbus International Airport with a section of the Columbus metropolitan area’s outer-belt – Interstate Route 270 – traversing the city. Gahanna lies on the eastern edge of Franklin County – a county of over 1.2 million residents.

The Village of Grove City, incorporated at the end of the Civil War, had its first election held that May. Town marshals were the law enforcement officers until the early 1950s. The first police chief enforced law in the area assisted by his wife who dispatched calls. In 1961, the police department had grown to six officers, one captain, one sergeant and two civilian employees. From 1982 to 1990, Grove City Police Department saw an expansion through the addition of a detective bureau.

Like many villages, Groveport appointed marshals to provide law enforcement up until the 1960s. In 1966, the first police chief was appointed. In 1974 the first full-time police officer was hired. Presently, the Groveport police department has 18 sworn personnel with one civilian employee.
