We will screen candidates from Monday, July 29, 2024 through Friday, August 9, 2024. Scheduling for these screenings will begin immediately. The times for the interviews will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will last approximately 45 minutes each. Please have your candidates email Mrs. Jamie Gibney at JGibney@fop9.org or call/text 614-882-4683, to schedule an interview. The interviews will take place at our Lodge Hall located at 6800 Schrock Hill Court, Columbus, Ohio 43229. Prior to arriving for the appointment, the Committee would appreciate a biography, resume and photograph of each candidate so that each member may familiarize themselves with the candidate’s background, qualifications and accomplishments. This information can be emailed to JGibney@fop9.org

The members of our Committee look forward to meeting and interviewing your endorsed candidates.

Weekend Violent Attacks on Ohio Law Enforcement *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***
Weekend Violent Attacks on Ohio Law Enforcement
This weekend, violent attacks on law enforcement in Ohio, Franklin Co, and the City of Columbus further echo the dangers our brothers and sisters face. On Saturday, May 11th, we learned Euclid PD Officer Jacob Derbin was shot and killed by a violent offender while responding to a disturbance call. Jacob was 23 years old, and his life mattered.
On Saturday, May 11th, our Columbus Division of Police Zone 2 brothers and sisters responded to a shooting in progress and met with gunfire from a heavily armed individual with a rifle from cover and concealment. Due to our officer's bravery and swift action, they were able to return gunfire and incapacitate the suspect.
Again, on Sunday, May 12th, Deputies from the Franklin Co. Sheriff's Office, along with Columbus and Franklin Twp Officers, responded to a call for assistance from a neighboring county that was pursuing a violent individual who was involved in an active shooter incident at an Amazon warehouse. Our officers were able to locate, close with, and engage the violent offender in a gun battle. One of our officers was shot in the chest, and by the grace of God, his body armor saved his life.
In both local incidents, FOP Executive Board leaders and I responded by providing support at the scene and being your voice in the media. I met with the Columbus and Franklin Twp officers involved, thanked them for going home at the end of their shift, and offered to assist them with whatever they and their families needed.
These incidents demonstrate the dangers our brothers and sisters face and testify to their character, sacrifice, and service to our community. I would also like to recognize and thank the fantastic work of our communication bureau, Columbus firefighters, and hospital staff.
Be safe and look out for each other,
Brian A. Steel
President
